When I would go to Oscar Grant Plaza during the occupation and on J28 “Move-In Day”, one of my favorite people to see was the little boy with the mohawk. Sometimes he would mask up, on J28, he carried a shield, but usually he was hanging out making art.

I just found out that this 8yr old boy’s name is Phenix and he was removed from his mother for her participation in Occupy Oakland.This is really sad. His birthday was last week. We need to help get Phenix back to Oakland!

Violence and Non-Violence, Once Again

The discussion/argument over “non-violence” is tired. It is a fight one can never really win because we don’t get to define what “violence” is. Power defines it.

The following is the best thing I have read about “violence” & “non-violence” and it relates directly to police and social control.

what remains in the category of “non-violence” according to the rationality of the police, it is the absolute, uncritical obedience to their authority…

in short, “non-violence” according to the police means the uncritical compliance with the growing arbitrary power of the sovereign.

Chalkupy Oakland, Oscar Grant Plaza

Chalk mural depicting Robert Roche, an acting sergeant in the Oakland Police Department and member of OPD’s Tango Teams. Roche has been identified as the officer who threw the flash-bang grenade at injured Scott Olsen and his rescuers. Police records show that Roche had previously killed three people in the line of duty.

January 28th was supposed to be Occupy Oakland’s Move In Day. What happened shook Oakland and was one of the most significant days of my life. I am a fan of Susie Cagle’s work and enjoy this piece.

The Oakland General Strike will demonstrate the wide reaching implications of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The entire world is fed up with the huge disparity of wealth caused by the present system. Now is the time that the people are doing something about it.The Oakland General Strike is a warning shot to the 1% – their wealth only exists because the 99% creates it for them.
