In SLC around 1987, I was in the front of a line to get Mike Dringenberg’s autograph. He sketched me a very elaborate image of Death who was a brand new character. While sketching, he told me all about the woman who inspired the look of Death. It really held up the line but, as a young punk kid, I really appreciated it… I wish I could find that sketch!

It’s good to see Cinamon getting the credit she deserves these days as Mike Dringenberg’s inspiration and occasional model, twenty-something years ago. (I’d get faintly irritated when people used to lie and claim that they were the inspiration for Death who weren’t her.)

I recently finished the amazing book Marvel: The Untold Story by Sean Howe. I don’t think I will ever look at comic books the same again.

One thing the book reminded me is how long I have been reading comics and how important they are to me. Perhaps my favorite title ever is The New Mutants (first volume) and my favorite run on that title has to be with Bill Sienkiewicz.
